The Stingray Project

For the past three years, the focus of the iBotics team has been to design and build an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to compete in AUVSI & ONR’s Annual International AUV Competition. The requirements of the competition are to develop a vehicle capable of completing a number of realistic underwater challenges that focus on navigation, vision, sonar and environment manipulation.

The approach that the iBotics team takes to this competition is not only to compete as a student organization, but also to shape the future of underwater vehicles by working to create the next generation of AUV technology. The result of these efforts is the Stingray: a compact, light-weight AUV that sacrifices neither functionality nor style.

More information about the competition is available on the AUVSI website.

See the Stingray design section to learn more about the design and features of the Stingray.
